Kuss Filtration Inc. has over 60 years experience providing air and liquid filtration solutions to a diverse global market.
The Kuss business was founded in Findlay, Ohio USA in 1949 by Ralph Kuss, who subsequently formed R.L.Kuss & Company in 1951. The first products produced were vinyl liners for sauerkraut vats. Ralph Kuss’ entrepreneurial spirit led the company to begin producing intank fuel filters as early as 1953. He directed the company into a wide range of products. At the time of Ralph Kuss’ death in 1979, the company produced filters, water mattresses, vinyl airport hangar doors, and vinyl swimming pool liners.
In 1986 the Kuss family sold the business to Fleetguard, a division of the Cummins Engine Company and in 1990 Fleetguard divested all of the products not related to filters. In 2007, as part of Cummins’ global branding strategy, Kuss was merged into Cummins Filtration, and became part of its Light Duty division. In 1996 Kuss began manufacturing in France and by the end of 2007, Kuss had established its global presence with additional manufacturing locations in Brazil and China.
The Kuss Filtration operation in Bloomer, Wisconsin was established by Nelson Industries in 1965. Nelson Industries was a supplier of filtration products and exhaust and emissions control systems. In 1998, Nelson Industries was sold to Fleetguard, a division of the Cummins Engine Company. In 2005, as part of Cummins’ global branding strategy, Nelson was merged into Cummins Filtration, and became part of its Light Duty division.
On October 31, 2011, the Light Duty filtration business operations based in Findlay, Ohio and Bloomer, Wisconsin were sold to Industrial Opportunity Partners, LLC (IOP). This sparked the rebirth and re-establishment of Kuss Filtration Inc.
