Broadway Asia Entertainment, with offices in New York and Shanghai, is the largest producer of Broadway musicals in Asia, and its founders are one of the most active commercial producers in the world as well as the largest touring operation throughout the Asia Pacific region. In 2004, Troika and BAE partners produced the highly successful Asian tour of The Sound of Music, which will return to China and other parts of Asia in 2008. Broadway Asia Entertainment’s Chinese language production of I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, premiered in Shanghai in December 2006, headlined this year’s Beijing Festival and performed a four-week engagement in New York City before resuming performances for a multi-city tour throughout China. In April 2007, BAE launched the Asian Tour of The King And I in China, followed by Korea, Malaysia and Singapore. In May 2007, BAE’s family division began English language touring of SpongeBob Squarepants Live: The Sponge Who Could Fly! based on the popular Nickelodeon cartoon, and a Mandarin language tour throughout China is scheduled for 2008.
Upcoming productions include the Asian tour of Cinderella starring Lea Salonga and Music of Andrew Lloyd Weber. BAE’s founders produce The Producers, winner of 12 Tony Awards; Hairspray, winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical; Stomp, the international sensation performing in New York for over 13 years; Cookin’ which has toured over 40 countries and many other award winning shows in London, on Broadway, on tour in the US , UK and Asia, and in Las Vegas. BAE co-producers on their Asian touring productions include The Really Useful Group, Nickelodeon Theatricals, Troika Entertainment, Networks Productions, Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center and McCoy Rigby.
