Chemtex History & Background
Chemtex International Inc., parent company of Chemtex (China), is an engineering company specializing in the design and supply of complete plants for producing chemical fibers and other petrochemical products. Based in US, Chemtex International Inc. is one of the most reputable engineering companies in the world in the field of man-made fibers, polymers, construction management, engineering consulting and related activities for over 50 years. The name, “Chemtex” comes from combining two words which represented the company’s business, “Chem” from the word, “chemical,” and “tex” from “textiles.” Our biggest business in the past several years had been in the technology transfer of polyester and acrylic fiber technology. All projects have three major components: engineering design, equipment procurement, and construction management (known as “EPCM”). Chemtex International Inc. can undertake all of these parts of a project, providing service on an “EPCM” (or “turn-key”) basis.
Before December of 1989, Chemtex was a privately owned company. In December of 1989, she was purchased by Mitsubishi Corporation. Mitsubishi Corporation is one of the largest and most respected trading firms in the world, and their purchase of Chemtex grew out of many years of friendly cooperation between the two firms in projects throughout the world. Being part of the Mitsubishi family of companies brings many benefits to Chemtex. Mitsubishi Corporation has over 170 offices worldwide, providing an extensive network of business development contacts. Chemtex International now operates as an independently managed subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation.
Chemtex International is truly international in both scope and character with global resources and capability. More than 90% of its business is related to international contracts. Chemtex International maintains offices in Jakarta, Indonesia; Mumbai and Bangalore in India; and here in Beijing, China. In our headquarters in Wilmington NC, over half of our staff was born outside the USA and more than 25 different languages can be spoken by our employees.
