The British Consulate-General in Guangzhou represents the United Kingdom across southern China. Our main roles include: developing trade and investment opportunities for the UK and promoting bilateral co-operation between the British government and the provincial governments of southern China, on issues such as climate change, tackling international crime and education. The Climate Change & Energy Section is a six-person team working to support the provincial governments in south China to tackle climate change and energy security through a successful transition to a low carbon economy. It is part of Britain’s Climate Change & Energy Network in China, established in 2007 with teams in Beijing, Chongqing, Hong Kong, Shanghai as well as Guangzhou. The Network’s mission is to assist China to achieve low carbon economic reform and development and to work with China on an agreement to a post-Kyoto international framework to reduce greenhouse gas emissions globally.
