Thomson desires to establish an R&D center in Beijing to work in conjunction with Thomson\'s worldwide research and development organization. The R&D center will engage in general research in (a) the design and development of digital set-top boxes, DSL modems, wireless networking products and telephony products, and in (b) broadband networking, wireless communication, multimedia delivery, video compression and content protection.
This R&D center will strengthen the ability of Thomson to develop and innovate its technologies and services, with a view to maintaining its leading position in providing technology and service solutions for integrated media and entertainment companies worldwide and keeping abreast with the demands of the Chinese market.
