Root Cellar is an independent importer and distributor of natural wines catering to China’s leading restaurants, hotels, specialized wine shops, and private clients.
Led under the leadership of internationally renowned Sommelier Jean-Marc Nolant, our young team of highly professional, passionate, and detail oriented associates, focuses on the representation of organic wines issued from vineyards practicing biodynamic or sustainable approaches to viticulture. Aside from eschewing the use of any pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, or genetically modified organisms, the “natural winemakers” treat the vineyard as a closed and self-sustaining system, enforcing low yields, a very natural and non-interventionist philosophy in the cellar, (via use of indigenous yeasts, a minimal use or total abstraction of sulfite dioxide), and seek to truly represent the characteristics of each vintages...issued from vineyards farmed under organic and biodynamic practices.
Far more than a trend seeking for a healthier and more natural wine consumption, organic wines very much fascinate us with their level of “drinkability”.

While the aseptic and mute character of the wines often described by \"wine experts\" as \"conventional\" enables them to travel the world without a word of complaint, we like to think that our “natural” bottles contain a year of history, breath and react to the seasons, and require a minimum of consideration:
We are therefore going to great lengths to ensure that our shipments come straight from the wineries to our cellar via thermo-regulated (reefer) containers. Upon their arrival to Shanghai, the wines are kept at a temperature ranging from 16 to 18 degrees C in our storage facility and allowed to rest for a period of one month prior release. (As most of our wines are not filtered, this period enables them to get over the \"travel shock\" and allows a natural stabilization of the potentially suspended wine particles). To further respect the intrinsic quality of our wines (all issued from highly sought after wineries), all our deliveries are operated in small thermo-regulated trucks.
Our beliefs for the urge of an ecological awareness equally leads us to take simple but meaningful actions. Root Cellar, since its creation, has embraced a business recycling program going through energy conservation activities, office waste reduction, and a drastic use of recycled materials in its logistics. Upon their arrival, our wines are re-conditioned in 6 pack recycled card-board boxes, and all original cartons are systematically recycled.
