With its long history, RSA is one of world\'s ten largest non-life insurers. The founding of RSA dates back to 1710 when the \"SunFire Office\" first began trading, which can be recognised as \"The Oldest Existing Insurance Company in the World\". We currently transact business in 130 countries and have 20 million customers around the globe. We have a strong credit rating from Standard & Poor\'s and an excellent credit rating from A.M. Best.Our links with China go back to 1853 when we first operated in Shanghai. In 1992, RSA returned to China and opened a representative office in Beijing, becoming the first European insurer to set up an office in China.In April 1998, the Premier of State Council announced during his visit to the UK that RSA would be the first British insurance company to be granted an operating license in China. On 8th October 1998, RSA was officially opened by British Prime Minister.RSA developed its business in China through Shanghai Branch from 1998 until 2008, focusing on foreign and joint venture clients, offering a range of personal & commercial insurance solutions. With the opening of the insurance market in line with WTO, Shanghai Branch extended its propositions to cover areas, such as Personal Accident, Hospital Cash and Medical insurance, as well as for Chinese companies, organizations and individuals.In order to expand further across the country, insurers must look to establish a locally incorporated subsidiary, and therefore RSA applied to the Chinese Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC) for permission to convert Shanghai Branch into a wholly owned subsidiary. This permission was granted by the CIRC in 2007 and the new subsidiary, Sun Alliance Insurance (China) Limited was formally authorized & launched on 17th March 2008.Sun Alliance Insurance (China) Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of Royal & Sun Alliance UK Plc, capitalized at RMB 500 million, with the head office in Shanghai.The launch of the new subsidiary has allowed RSA to create a nationwide presence in China, and plans are in place to set up branch offices in key cities.
