In recent years Carrier has substantially increased the investment in China to expand its presence in the local market. In 2004, Carrier opened a US$15 million compressor center in Yileng Factory, which is Carrier's largest joint venture in China. In April 2005, Carrier held a groundbreaking ceremony for its global research and development (R&D) center in Shanghai's Pudong area. Carrier has projected that it intends to spend an additional US$50 million in China during the next few years on R&D, including this center.
