Incorporated in Hong Kong in 1918, The Bank of East Asia (\"BEA\") is the largest independent local bank in Hong Kong. Recognizing the enormous market potential of China, BEA set up its first China branch in Shanghai in 1920 and has been operating continuously in the country ever since, and received approval from the China Banking Regulatory Commission (\"CBRC\") to establish a locally incorporated bank in China in March 2007. April, 2007.
