Arup was founded over 60 years ago and we have operated in China for more than 30 years. We have more than 10,000 projects running at any one time and operate more than 90 offices in over 35 countries and almost a quarter of our 10,000 worldwide staff are based in Hong Kong and mainland China. Our unique structure, with the firm held in trust on behalf of its employees, gives us complete independence.

Throughout Arup’s history in Asia, we have been committed to developing local leadership and almost 90% of our leadership in Hong Kong and Mainland China is from the region. The promotion of transfer of knowledge and know-how has made significant contributions to the development of the built environment industry and profession both in Hong Kong and on the Mainland.
We opened offices on the Mainland extending from Shenzhen (1995) to Shanghai (1996), Beijing (2001), Guangzhou (2006), Wuhan (2007), and Tianjin (2008), bringing our staff members to over 500 on the Mainland.

Arup has worked on over 500 projects in China, including sports venues, masterplans, hotels, offices, airports, libraries, power stations, bridges, highways and railways. We are currently designing some of the highest profile projects for the Beijing Capital International Airport Terminal 3.
