The adventure began in 1978, when Kristian Reinwald decided to work for himself. He started the company in the basement of his home with a few hand-run machines, and his philosophy was to keep things simple in order to produce at a low cost. All products were aimed at the private label market, so he was a pioneer in the field of private label knitwear.
In 1990 he sold the company to pursue his idea of building a software company . From 1990 to 2006 the company was owned by various shareholders, but as from December 2006 Per Nybo Nielsen bought the last shares from the previous partner.
In 2007 First Factory Asia was established, and today it is the main source for First Factory. FFA has 100 employees, and is situated in modern facilities in Suzhou, Jiangsu, China. FFA has a large in-house sample capacity as well as a number of highly skilled suppliers in the area.
