Umbra was born in 1979, when childhood friends Les Mandelbaum and Paul Rowan turned a decorating dilemma into an innovative product - a printed window shade. The two co-founders had discovered Umbra’s niche: to modernize home products to appeal to a youthful audience, where style was a requirement and finances limited. This breakthrough began the journey to Umbra’s success of becoming an international brand, known for contemporary home accessories, spanning over multiple categories.
